ABOUT
Recording/mix engineer based out of Echo Mountain in Asheville, NC.
As both a recording and mix engineer, I am here to serve the song and the artist. My approach is to edit and pitch-correct when needed, but to ultimately let the performances breathe on their own. My goal is to bring the best out of each track, and in order to achieve that, I invest 110% of myself into every mix. I want the artists that I work with to feel proud of their recordings, so I will happily provide revisions until that happens.
One of my favorite things to do is to play with space. Whether it’s through thoughtful mic placement, re-amping, or using plugins while mixing, I want every project to have its own unique sense of space. And while I love getting adventurous with effects when given the opportunity, my priority is always to do what is best for the song. Living in Appalachia, I work with acoustic music quite often, so I know how and when to stay out of the way.
I started out on this path when I was young, by recording my own band in my father’s basement. After graduating with a BA in Audio Production from the Art Institute of Washington, I left DC and moved to the mountains of WNC. I began recording bands in their own spaces with a modest mobile rig (e.g. Two People Playing Music, Foothills, Morbids) and eventually landed an internship at Echo Mountain Recording.
As a staff engineer at Echo Mountain, I’ve had the opportunity to assist and learn from many talented engineers and producers, from Nashville to London. This position has also afforded me the privilege of working with great artists such as Mandolin Orange, Moses Sumney, Sylvan Esso, Steep Canyon Rangers, Judy Collins, Jim Lauderdale, Jonathan Scales Fourchestra, Béla Fleck, and many more.
I enjoy working in any genre, but most of my experience lies in indie rock, alternative, and Americana.
